One of the things I love to do most to take care of myself is to cook. To some, this may sound like ‘just another chore.’ I guess I’ve grown to see it a little differently. Have I always loved cooking? My family might say ‘yes’, but it’s a different story when you HAVE to cook, versus just wanting to cook because you FEEL like it. Sometimes, I just don’t feel like it! But, then there’s that thing called ‘being an adult.’ Ugh. Right!?! My current perspective: There is something so peaceful and centering about doing one.thing.at.a.time! It is possible to mindfully attend to the tasks at hand and make them pleasurable at the same time. Here is an article from Psychology Today that talks a little more about doing one thing at a time by Marietta McCarty that I found to be pretty on point. So how, exactly, do I enjoy cooking? I make sure to put on some good music. I pull out the delicious ingredients that have most likely come from the local farmers market and begin to put together something that will (hopefully) …. Okay…..most likely turn into a fantastic creation that the people I love will get to enjoy. That’s my spin on cooking. I love it. It destresses me, makes me feel productive, and if I do a little pre-planning and meal prep . .I don’t have to do it as often making the times I DO have to do it more enjoyable. I look forward to it. Want to know what makes meal prep even better? Doing it with a friend! I recently had the pleasure of doing a Sunday meal prep with my good friend, Diana. Being in the kitchen with others who enjoy the same is where it’s at! Here is a picture of my most recent meal prep. I decided it was time for some soup.
