What is Hypnotherapy or Clinical Hypnosis?

Hypnosis certainly has a reputation in popular culture as a platform for entertainment with an air of incredulous mysticism and wonder. However, clinical hypnotherapy is something quite different from what popular culture portrays. Clinical hypnotherapy is conducted by a trained and licensed mental health professional for the purpose of providing healing and creating lasting change for a wide variety of concerns. Hypnotherapy helps clients cope with difficult emotions, make important behavioral changes, or get to the root of distressing emotional or behavioral patterns. I use hypnotherapy as a tool in psychotherapy to helps clients resolve concerns when “talk” therapy just isn’t enough.

How does it work?

Clinical hypnotherapy engages the emotional brain, the subconscious, and the energetic intelligence of the heart, gut, and body to help clients abolish limiting belief systems, adopt new ways of looking at themselves and the world around them, and to move out of places where they are stuck. It involves a process of becoming very relaxed while staying completely awake and in control. This relaxation is achieved through a guided meditation focusing on relaxing the entire body. The client is then able to work through areas where they feel stuck. Sessions conclude with the client receiving positive messages and imagery that help the client create a “blue print” for lasting change.
